MOBY DICK; or, The Whale
Director Wu Tsang makes films, installations and performances (you might know her from the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2021 presentation by Virgil Abloh, for example). Surrounded by her collective Moved by Motion, she searches for stories and histories of marginalised groups.
Tickets can be purchased here!
Her latest work, MOBY DICK; or, The Whale, is based on the book Moby Dick by Herman Melville. With MOBY DICK; or, The Whale, Wu Tsang presents a silent film that makes use of the latest virtual technologies. Music was written by DJ Asma Maroof and composer Caroline Shaw (who you might know as the composer of several soundtracks, including Beyoncé’s Homecoming). The music is performed live by BRYGGEN Bruge Strings.
Tsang rewrites the original story from a post-colonial perspective. She looks at the broader context of the journey Moby Dick undertook; during the period of the transatlantic slave trade, the dawn of modern capitalism, a time of great unrest.
What can you expect? A spectacular silent film about a story we all know to some extent, but this time from a completely new perspective and with beautiful live music by internationally renowned makers.
